Job Description

Western Land is currently looking for Title Examiners to search and analyze public records in order to find, examine, and evaluate documents to prepare units of land for certified title. They also produce accurate, detailed reports summarizing research results for our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • MUST be willing to travel for projects as needed within a 2-hour radius
  • Prepare, examine, research and review title abstracts
  • Use courthouse computer systems to examine property and tax assessment records for compilation of information about a specific property
  • Copy or summarize recorded documents, such as leases, right of ways, and judgments affecting specific property
  • Examine liens, judgments, leases, plat books, maps, contracts, and agreements to verify legal description, ownership and restrictions
  • Create and review run sheets, deed plots, and flowcharts for abstracts and title opinions
  • Prepare detailed reports
  • Research and determine interest and ownership
  • Submit reports and results from researching liens, mortgages, right of ways, easements, back taxes, mineral, coal, oil and gas ownership, and verification of current surface ownership
  • Provide quality research and reports based on client specific needs and criteria

Qualifications:

  • Highly organized and meticulous individuals who have the ability to comb through large amounts of data and pinpoint relevant information.
  • Experience working with and interpreting real estate titles, deeds, and other land documents strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret maps
  • Ability to interpret complex legal documents to obtain and understand legal property descriptions
  • Basic familiarity with standard Microsoft Office Software including Outlook, Word
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills to include such capabilities as using multiple worksheets, totaling columns, changing formats, and entering/using basic formulas.
  • Ability to type using a computer keyboard to enter information rapidly, accurately and proficiently.
  • Some positions require the ability to travel to courthouses to engage in document research, which may include overnight travel
