Job Description

Overview: Optomi, in partnership with a leader in innovative automotive technology development, is seeking a Test Engineer to join their charging team, focusing on DC fast charging interoperability for electric vehicles. This role is critical in ensuring that EVs seamlessly communicate with public charging infrastructure through hardware and software validation. The ideal candidate will have a background in EV technology, vehicle-side charging systems, and testing processes. This is a hybrid role based in Long Beach, CA, requiring 4 days in-office with occasional domestic and international travel. The position is a long-term contract with potential for conversion. Experience of the Right Candidate: The ideal candidate will have experience in EV charging systems, automotive electronics, or vehicle testing. Candidates with the following backgrounds are strongly preferred: Top Tier: Direct experience with OEMs in charging, charging hardware manufacturers (e.g., BTC Power, Tredium, ChargePoint, Electrify America), or CPOs. Mid Tier: Experience in battery development, electric motor systems, or vehicle-side electrical systems. Entry Tier: Background in ADAS, infotainment, or driver assistance technologies, with exposure to EV testing. Responsibilities of the Right Candidate: Charging Communication Testing: Perform interoperability testing on DC fast charging systems. Troubleshoot charging communication issues between vehicles and public charging stations. Collect and analyze PLC charging communication & CAN data. Understand OCPP & API messages and their impact on charging functionality. Develop test cases based on SAE and ISO standards. Update test vehicles with new hardware/software and perform smoke tests. Monitor system logs and ECU communications to ensure charging system functionality. Industry & Project Management: Participate in charging interoperability testing symposiums (e.g., CharIN, ACT). Collaborate with CPOs, EVSE manufacturers, and OEMs to improve charging technology. Collect industry feedback and define US-specific charging requirements. Generate project reports and track development activities. Proactively identify project risks, delays, and potential solutions. Stay updated on EV charging infrastructure developments to align testing efforts with market trends. Travel domestically (~3 times per year) and internationally (~1 time per year) as needed.
