Lab Tech Aide – 2nd Shift
Location: Altavista, VA
Contract Length: 10 Months
Pay: $18.35/hr.
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
About the Role
Join a forensic toxicology laboratory environment where you’ll support sample preparation, testing, and equipment operation for GC/MS confirmation analysis. This is a great opportunity for science graduates looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience in a regulated setting.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare and extract samples for GC/MS confirmation testing
- Safely operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
- Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents, controls, and calibrators per SOPs and regulatory guidelines
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Make sound technical decisions during testing and problem-solving
- Manage storage and restocking of laboratory supplies
- Follow all confidentiality, safety, and security protocols
- Wear appropriate PPE and maintain a clean, safe lab environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or related science
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience (for Technologist level consideration)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail with solid communication and organizational skills
- Proficient with computers; laboratory information system experience is a plus
- Must pass a standardized color vision screening
- Willingness to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed
Physical & Workplace Requirements
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs
- Full body mobility with corrected vision and hearing as needed
- Ability to handle fast-paced or production-based demands
- Work performed in a climate-controlled testing lab
- Possible exposure to toxic or hazardous materials
Additional Information
- Occasional domestic travel may be required when subpoenaed for legal testimony or to visit other laboratory sites
- May be asked to work varying shifts or weekends based on operational needs
- Entry-level candidates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree may be considered
