Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on telecommunications and EMS equipment to ensure compliance with NERC/FERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation/Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) regulations.
• Accurately record and enter maintenance data into a computerized record-keeping system.
• Install and test new telecommunications, data, fiber optics, and EMS equipment as required. The work scope includes mountain top and electrical substation sites.

Requirements:

• Must have a satisfactory work record.
• Must pass the Tri-State Transmission “Telecom Qualification” Test with a score of 75% or higher.
• Successful completion of Tri-State’s Electronics Specialist Apprentice Program OR 8 years of combined education and experience in electronics fields, which includes:
• Technical training equivalent to an Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, with advanced studies in radio communications (including microwave) and digital systems (including microprocessors, peripheral equipment, and programming).
• Six years of practical experience in the maintenance of electronic telecommunications and digital systems, including one year of experience in the maintenance of two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber optics, and carrier systems. Additionally, one year of experience in maintaining digital remote terminal units, microprocessors, and computer systems. Must be able to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
• Must have, or be able to obtain within six months, a valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake restrictions.
• Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire and be capable of performing First Aid and CPR.
• Must be willing to work in and around high-voltage areas typical of the electrical utility industry.
• Must be willing to travel overnight up to 75% of the time.
• Must reside within 60 minutes of your regular reporting location.
• Must be able to work extra and irregular hours, including under unusual conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, high winds, and darkness, as needed by the utility.
• Must possess sufficient knowledge and skill in using basic hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
• Must demonstrate basic computer knowledge and be able to work with small components, including fiber optic cables and connectors.
• Must be willing and able to climb steel or wooden structures and work at various heights.
