Position: Licensing Agent/Attorney

INTELLIGENCE FEDERAL is a growing government contracts company, specializing in providing highest level of professional services to Federal Agencies. The Smithsonian Institution, through Smithsonian Enterprises (SE), is seeking an experienced and passionate Licensing Agent to build, manage, and expand its consumer products and promotional licensing program across North America. This role will help extend the reach and impact of one of the United States’ most trusted heritage brands, translating its iconic collections, deep mission, and compelling stories into meaningful products and brand extensions.
Rooted in the Smithsonian’s mission to “increase and diffuse knowledge,” this position will connect products and promotions to the Institution’s heritage and collections across its museums and program offices. The goal is to deepen the Smithsonian brand across a variety of consumer demographics and retail tiers — from evergreen offerings to high-profile promotional partnerships — making the Institution’s educational and cultural heritage more accessible to every home in America.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, and secure licensing and promotional opportunities across a range of consumer goods and retail platforms.
  • Develop and implement a long‑term licensing strategy aligned with the Smithsonian Institution’s mission, brand, and heritage.
  • Leverage an established network of licensing relationships to drive revenue growth and expand the Institution’s licensing footprint across North America.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between SE and licensees, ensuring quality, brand alignment, and performance accountability.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of retail and licensing trends, identifying opportunities for both evergreen and high‑exposure campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Smithsonian staff, including museums and program offices, to authentically integrate collections and narratives into licensed products.
  • Negotiate, review, and manage licensing agreements, including contract terms, royalties, and quality control.
  • Develop marketing and promotional strategies for licensed products that reflect the Smithsonian’s values of authenticity, trust, education, and memorable family experiences.

Qualifications:

  • JD and legal experience preferred.
  • 5 - 10 years of extensive licensing experience required.
  • Passion for mission‑driven, heritage‑based brand licensing.
  • Skilled in contract negotiation, deal structuring, and relationship management.
  • Strong analytical abilities to assess licensing and revenue opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to balance revenue generation with the Smithsonian’s values and long‑term brand stewardship.

Why Join Us:
This is a unique opportunity to work with one of the United States’ most cherished and trusted heritage institutions — an organization rooted in science, history, art, and culture. As the Smithsonian’s Licensing Agent, you will play a pivotal role in extending the Institution’s legacy beyond its museums, reaching new generations across North America.
