Head of Technology Operations

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid - 3 days/week onsite)

Compensation: $250,000 - $280,000

A high-impact, mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Head of Technology Operations to lead and scale its IT function across a multi-site network serving thousands of students and staff. The organization is pioneering educational equity in New York, with a special focus on supporting children from low-income backgrounds, English language learners, and students with disabilities.

This is a senior leadership role that requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution. You'll oversee the end-to-end IT operations environment, working closely with executive leadership to transition from a reactive support model to a proactive, service-oriented technology function that empowers educators and students alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Help Desk, Systems Administration, Network Engineering, and Device Management across both central and school-based operations
  • Develop and execute a strategy to shift the tech function from reactive troubleshooting to proactive support and partnership
  • Serve as a visible technology leader, working closely with executive leadership and internal stakeholders to align IT operations with organizational priorities
  • Design and implement processes that increase the speed, reliability, and quality of support services for both hardware and software
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure effective and efficient service delivery
  • Establish KPIs, reporting structures, and dashboards to continuously monitor and improve technology service levels

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of progressive experience in IT operations leadership
  • Proven success managing and scaling IT teams in dynamic, multi-site environments
  • Deep experience with Help Desk operations, network infrastructure, systems administration, and device lifecycle management
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and influence senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams, foster accountability, and build a service-oriented culture
  • A track record of implementing strategic improvements in IT support delivery and infrastructure
