Our Organization and Mission

The Division of Hotels and Restaurants (H&R) licenses, inspects, and regulates public lodging and food service establishments in Florida under Chapter 509, Florida Statutes (FS). The division also licenses and regulates elevators, escalators and other vertical conveyance devices under Chapter 399, FS. The division’s three bureaus – Sanitation and Safety Inspections, Licensing and Elevator Safety – comprise a team of approximately 360 personnel fulfilling the regulatory obligations of the division throughout the state.

The Work You Will Do

• This position is responsible for the processing of variance petitions including the intake, advertising, and drafting of orders for the Bureau of Elevator Safety. This position is also responsible for monitoring and assigning of public inquiries from the Bureau’s email box and escalations and following through to ensure they are completed in accordance with Department and Bureau procedures. This position assists other office staff as needed to ensure critical tasks are completed timely and accurately.
• Responsible for monitoring the Bureau’s email inbox and escalations, responding, or assigning inquiries, as needed, and ensuring they are completed in accordance with Department and Division procedures. Monitors complaints received in On Base and email, forwards the complaint to the appropriate person for handling, creates complaint in Versa Regulation, and tracks and closes complaints when completed. Creates and assigns complaint inspections in Versa Regulation, and other inspection types as needed. Provides assistance with the compliance and enforcement activities of the Bureau of Elevator Safety.
• Completes projects as assigned by senior management. Provides well-researched and thorough results to management inquiries. Responsible for handling discrepancies and issues with field staff reports and forms to ensure correct information and completion. Reviews bureau inspector reports and forwards anomalies to Deputy Chief. Assists with data entry, as necessary.
• Responsible for the processing of variance petitions including the intake, elevator code research, filing, advertising, and drafting of orders for the Bureau of Elevator Safety. Responsible for ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and filed according to applicable deadlines. Maintains accurate historical records of variances in Versa: Regulation and OnBase imaging system.
• Responsible for the identification and resolution of long-term delinquent elevator accounts through various forms of research and outreach, including searching local and state government records, internet searches, and email and phone contact. Produces monthly reporting on delinquent accounts that details action taken by the bureau.
• Responsible for the tracking, monitoring, reporting and analysis of elevator accounts with special license statuses that require active monitoring by the bureau. These include elevators with the following statuses: sealed, special sealed, inactive, owner unknown, and others as determined by management. Responsible for providing various reports on demand regarding the latest activities performed by bureau staff on these licenses. Maintains the bureau’s internet webpage with current reports of conveyances with license statuses that require active monitoring.
• Responsible for the timely processing and maintenance of all continuing education applications for providers and courses. Responsible for accurately entering all continuing education attendance records into Versa: Regulation. Generates accurate reporting of all providers and attendees as needed.
• Track, review and update, where necessary, website FAQ’s based on inquiries and changes to Bureau processes. Assists field staff with Versa Regulation account research, as needed. Assists the Chief and Deputy Chief with duties including ESTAC and other event planning efforts, coordinating property management within the bureau, maintenance of Inspector Daily Report Database, and report generation and analysis. Responsible for handling ESTAC members’ authorization to travel, travel reimbursement, and related tasks utilizing STMS. Provides assistance to management as needed for special assignments. Assists AAI with scanning and indexing documents into OnBase and other administrative tasks as needed.
• Maintains Versa: Regulation license records. Responsible for the change of owner research and licensure compliance. Responsible for preparing special correspondence to licensees, when necessary.
• Assists with seal requests submitted by field staff, updates elevator status for approved seals and unseals, and archives documentation.
• Assists field staff with Versa Regulation account research. Creates administrative cases in Versa Regulation for field staff issuing citations. Assists with seal requests submitted by field staff, updates elevator status for approved seals and unseals, and archives documentation.
• Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university, OR
• Two or more years of relevant professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with processing accident or inspection reports (verifiable on you’re application).
