The Role

The successful candidate will contribute significantly to alpha generation of their long-only equity strategies by supporting the identification of the best investment opportunities, as well as gain exposure to senior corporate executives, key opinion leaders, and other high-profile industry experts. Depending on the candidate’s level of experience, a successful candidate can initially expect to perform support in the analysis and modeling of prospective companies; candidates with more experience will have their own lead coverage of a portion of the biotech universe.

The BB Biotech team is split into two investment teams, based in Switzerland and New York. The two teams share the same portfolio and work collaboratively on all investment decisions.

The role is based in New York, USA and reports to Wendy Lam, Deputy Head Investment Management and Head of US Research BB Biotech. The role will be employed at Bellevue Research Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Bellevue Asset Management AG.

Main Responsibilities

• Generate stock ideas by assessing company management, company strategy, clinical data, market potential and competitive landscape.
• Conduct deep dive technology assessment.
• Prepare, conduct and summarize company meetings.
• Create and update financial company models including valuation.
• Write thorough research reports and propose investments to the investment team.
• Ongoing monitoring of research coverage including news updates, earnings reports, company/industry conference calls and other data sources.
• Attend scientific/medical and investor conferences.

Candidate Profile

Technical qualifications & competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in life sciences (PhD or MD preferred but not required).
• At least 3-5 years of buy-side (public equities, venture capital, private equity) experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct deep fundamental analysis.
• Ability to build and maintain detailed financial models.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Coursework or experience in clinical trial design and statistics a plus.
